4 Ways to Spend Thanksgiving in Aspen

Though Aspen may be best known as a winter resort town, there are plenty of good reasons to spend Thanksgiving here, too

A lack of crowds. Milder weather. Family-friendly activities. There are a plethora of reasons to spend Thanksgiving in Aspen. If you’re looking for something fun to do over the holiday, here are four recommendations that should be at the top of your list:

Indoor Turkey Triathlon

Prepare for all that turkey and stuffing by participating in the Indoor Turkey Triathlon, which will take place on November 28th from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Aspen Recreation Center. This indoor triathlon includes a 10-minute swim, a 30-minute spin bike ride, and a 20-minute treadmill ride. The person who goes the furthest in an hour is the winner. The entry fee is $45 per person and includes a drawstring bag of goodies, a t-shirt, a swim cap, a water bottle, and even a finishers’ medal. Kids eight and up can participate, making it a great event for the entire family to do together.

Thanksjibbing

On November 28th, Snowmass Base Village will throw its annual ski season kick-off party to officially welcome the 2019-2020 ski season. Grab a thermos of hot chocolate and gather to watch the area’s top freeskiers and snowboarders compete for cash prizes and bragging rights. Admission is free to the competition, which will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Fanny Hill. Afterward, head to one of the many onsite restaurants for a sit-down dinner or a quick bite.

Aspen Turkey Trot

If running is in your genes, gather some friends together and participate in the annual Aspen Turkey Trot, which will take place on November 24th at 12 p.m. It’s a great way to work up an appetite in preparation for all those holiday goodies.

Thanksgiving Dinner at Element 47

Of course, no list would be complete without the main attraction: turkey and all the trimmings. On November 28th from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., diners of all ages can gather at Element 47 at The Little Nell to enjoy a three-course tasting dinner. Offering upscale twists on traditional favorites, the meal will include soup or salad for the appetizer; turkey, crispy-skinned salmon, short rib, or house-made ravioli for the main course; and a rich dessert for the finale. The menu starts at $100 per person with an optional $65 wine pairing.
